ROAST QUALITY

The next big difference is the roast itself. We roast every batch by hand, batch by batch, order by order. Using the latest computer assisted artisan coffee roasting equipment, which insures a consistency in roast quality difficult to achieve on lesser equipment, and a nightmare in mass production. Commercial producers are roasting in HUGE batches and for the most part, make a conscious decision to roast very dark. Roasting dark isn’t necessarily bad, but you have to have the right bean. Have you noticed how often coffee tastes burnt or charred? That’s because it is.

Roasting is a fine art, with every bean having it’s own special qualities. At Aroma Gourmet Coffee Roastery we profile each bean type and cup (taste) so we deliver the best possible coffee, roasting each bean the way it should be roasted. Our profiling process takes at least 12 hours of roasting and cupping to build individual bean profiles, and it doesn’t end there. Quality takes time, and it is a continuous process with every crop. With facets such as merchant storage being factors to take into consideration. Bottom-line, we care deeply enough about our roast quality to profile each of the hand selected beans we choose. We put the time, energy and love into our roasts so that you enjoy every sip.

THE AROMA OF FRESHNESS

Did you know? A roasted bean maintains peak flavour for only two weeks, and by the fourth week is actually stale. Ground beans, on the other hand, last only 24 hours with plenty of substantiated research showing a substantial flavour change after the first hour. If you were to guess what the average age of coffee at the supermarkets is: would you think three to four weeks perhaps?

That is how long it takes for their roasted beans to make their way through the distribution process, not to mention any additional time spent sitting on the shelf that would apply to local brands. Imports could take anything from 9 weeks or longer.

At Aroma Gourmet Coffee Roastery, we roast and pack within 24 hours (the same day) and deliver to your door within 2 to 3 days max! Mathematically, we supply in at least one tenth of the time of a traditional supplier.

This translates directly into FRESHNESS and more importantly, TASTE.

WHERE IS OUR COFFEE FROM?

Arabica? Of course Arabica! The question is, what grade of Arabica? Like with all produce, Arabica beans are graded and they range from brilliant down to poor. Aroma, however, buy only grade AAA Speciality Arabica beans, which means the beans with the least number of imperfections, the most bean uniformity, the highest farming/processing standards, from farms located at the right altitudes and having the best geographic amenities available. So, do not be fooled by people telling you their product is great because it is an Arabica bean. There is so much more to it when you dig just a little bit deeper.

Rest assured, at Aroma we are only using the best of the best Arabica beans from around the world and we are on a never-ending quest to find the next awesome bean!

Uganda

Ugandan Bugisu Roast

Aroma Coffee offers the best Roast from Uganda

Its aroma is darker than an Ethiopian with a touch of Brazil nut that you can taste in the cup, but sweet and mild, and boasting a deep, earthy, woody mouthfeel. The body of the cup is fairly light, like most African coffees, but the flavour is surprisingly rich, Bugisu coffee has more body than most other East African coffees, and somewhat lower acidity.

“Bold, dark, slightly adventurous”.

“Ethiopia Sidamo” is a type of Arabica coffee of single origin grown exclusively in the Sidamo Province of Ethiopia. Like most African coffees, Ethiopia Sidamo features a small and greyish bean, yet is valued for its deep, spice and wine or chocolate-like taste and floral aroma. The most distinctive flavour notes found in all Sidamo coffees are lemon and citrus with bright crisp acidity. Sidamo coffee includes Yirgachefe Coffee and Guji Coffee. Both coffee types are very high quality.

Aroma is one of our favourite spots! the coffees, ice creams and waffles are genuinely the best I have ever had (including visiting italy) and the service and atmosphere is incredible. The manager personally walks around chatting with everyone and the atmosphere is so divinely relaxed. I would recommend this for take-aways, sit downs, catch ups and especially dates.

Best coffee in town. They roast their own beans and prices are very reasonable. Good service. Recommended place for first dates 🙂
